PM Modi Highlights Ethiopia Visit Through Cinematic Video Montage

PM Modi showcased India’s expanding presence in Africa through a five-minute video montage of his Ethiopia visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has framed India’s expanding footprint in Africa through a decisive and high-impact visit to Ethiopia, now captured in a five-minute video montage shared on his official platform.

The visuals capture his first bilateral visit to Ethiopia on December 16-17, 2025. The trip blended ceremonial grandeur with strategic substance and elevated India-Ethiopia relations to a full-fledged Strategic Partnership.

The montage opens with a rousing welcome in Addis Ababa, where Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed broke protocol by personally receiving PM Modi.

The imagery sets the tone for a visit defined by trust and political warmth.

The Prime Minister later laid a wreath at the Adwa Victory Monument to honour Ethiopia’s historic resistance against colonial forces. The gesture aligned India’s anti-colonial legacy with Africa’s enduring struggle for sovereignty.

PM Modi further emphasised shared histories, mutual respect, and a common responsibility to shape a multipolar world that prioritises development over dominance.

Beyond symbolism, the visit delivered concrete outcomes. India and Ethiopia signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding aimed at accelerating trade facilitation, expanding development cooperation, and strengthening institutional capacity.

India has committed to doubling scholarships for Ethiopian students, strengthening education as a central pillar of bilateral engagement.

Both sides launched artificial intelligence training programs to advance Ethiopia’s digital ambitions. India also pledged to strengthen maternal healthcare services at Addis Ababa’s Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.

These agreements, however, reflect India’s approach to Africa, development-led, people-centric, and future-oriented. PM Modi’s message was unambiguous: India seeks partnerships, not patronage.

The visit reached a high point when Ethiopia conferred its highest civilian honour, the Nishan of Ethiopia, on Prime Minister Modi.

This marked his 28th international honour in 2025 alone, underscoring his rising stature on the global stage and the resonance of India’s diplomatic outreach.

PM Modi accepted the award on behalf of the Indian people, calling it a tribute to shared values and enduring friendship.

As the visit concluded, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed once again defied convention and personally drove PM Modi to the airport. The rare gesture stood out in international diplomacy.

The moment, captured in the video montage, symbolised a relationship that has moved beyond formality into genuine political camaraderie.

With this visit, PM Modi has not only strengthened India-Ethiopia ties but also reinforced India’s claim as a leading voice of the Global South.

The Ethiopia engagement signals a confident India shaping alliances through respect and cooperation. It, however, reflects a commitment to shared progress, one strategic partnership at a time.
