Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted Nagauri Ashwagandha, Ramban honey and Banarasi silk stoles to world leaders during the recently concluded G7 Summit in France, showcasing India’s rich heritage in traditional medicine, natural wellness, and artisanal craftsmanship.
India has been actively promoting traditional medicine as an evidence-based, integrated and people-centred component of global health systems.
Reflecting this vision, Nagauri Ashwagandha featured among the key gifts presented during the visit.
Nagauri Ashwagandha is a premium variety of Ashwagandha cultivated in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district.
The region’s arid climate and sandy soil give Ashwagandha a high withanolide content. It has received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag and holds significant cultural and agricultural value.
Ayurveda regards Ashwagandha as a Rasayana herb that supports vitality, mental clarity, immunity and overall well-being.
Derived mainly from its roots, it is widely studied for its adaptogenic and health-supporting properties.
The crop also contributes to rural livelihoods while representing the fusion of traditional Ayurvedic wisdom and modern scientific research, aligning with global wellness trends.
The Prime Minister also gifted Ramban honey, produced in Jammu and Kashmir’s Chenab Valley, an area known for its rich Himalayan flora and wildflowers.
Ayurveda and traditional wellness systems value the honey for its natural antioxidants, enzymes and bioactive compounds. Local beekeepers produce it using environmentally sensitive practices.
Another gift was the Banarasi silk stole, a handwoven textile from Varanasi crafted from fine silk and intricate zari work.
Recognised with a GI tag, Banarasi silk is among India’s most celebrated textile traditions and supports generations of weaving communities.
India participated in the 52nd G7 Summit as a partner country.
During the summit, Prime Minister Modi engaged with world leaders on issues important to India and the Global South.
The visit marked India’s 13th participation in the G7 Summit and PM Modi’s seventh consecutive attendance.
