PM Modi Departs For New Zealand After Concluding Australia Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday departed for New Zealand after successfully concluding his three-day diplomatic visit to Australia.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Australia’s High Commissioner to India Philip Green and other senior dignitaries were present at the airport to see him off.

One of the major outcomes of the visit was the unveiling of the India-Australia Sports Collaboration Roadmap at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

The initiative is designed to enhance cooperation in sports development, sports science, coaching and sporting infrastructure.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan joined the event along with renowned Australian cricketers Steve Waugh and Lisa Sthalekar, reflecting the growing sporting and cultural partnership between the two countries.

Throughout his stay, the Prime Minister held extensive discussions with his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese and met Governor-General Sam Mostyn, Victoria Governor Margaret Gardner AC, Opposition Leader Angus Taylor and former Prime Minister Scott Morrison. He also participated in the Australia-India CEO Forum and addressed a large gathering of the Indian community in Melbourne.

During the third Australia-India Annual Summit, both sides assessed progress in trade, investment, defence, clean energy, critical minerals, technology, education, maritime security and innovation.

The leaders also reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintaining a free, open, inclusive and prosperous Indo-Pacific while concluding several agreements across strategic sectors.

Next Stop: New Zealand

Following the completion of his Australian engagements, PM Modi left for a two-day official visit to New Zealand.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold bilateral talks with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon during his visit, marking the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in 40 years.

Apart from official meetings, the Prime Minister will engage with leading business figures, prominent sports personalities and members of the Indian diaspora as part of efforts to further strengthen India-New Zealand relations.
