PM Modi Congratulates Denmark PM Mette Frederiksen On Third Term

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on securing a historic third consecutive term in office, describing the development as a remarkable milestone in her political journey.

PM Modi underlined that India and Denmark continue to share a strong and enduring partnership based on mutual trust, democratic values and a shared commitment to sustainable development.

In his message posted on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister expressed his eagerness to work closely with Frederiksen to further strengthen the India–Denmark Green Strategic Partnership.

PM Modi stated that bilateral cooperation between the two nations has steadily expanded in areas such as clean energy transition, climate action, innovation, water management, shipping and food processing, and that both sides are committed to taking this collaboration to new heights.

Frederiksen recently formed a new four-party coalition government after a 69-day negotiation process, the longest in Denmark’s history.

The coalition includes the Social Democrats, Socialist People’s Party, Social Liberal Party and Moderates.

After meeting King Frederik X, Frederiksen called the negotiations ‘long and difficult’ but necessary for political stability.

The March 24 elections left a fragmented mandate, with her party emerging as the largest but without a majority, leading to prolonged cross-party talks to form a stable government.

The development follows PM Modi’s recent engagement with Frederiksen at the third India–Nordic Summit in Oslo, where both leaders reviewed bilateral progress and explored cooperation in fintech, defence, innovation and sustainable technologies.

PM Modi also invited Danish pension funds to increase investments in India and expressed optimism that the India–EU Free Trade Agreement would strengthen economic ties.

Frederiksen, addressing Nordic leaders, said India’s growing global role could help boost stability, prosperity and unity amid geopolitical uncertainty.
