Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended his congratulations to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and the ruling Prosperity Party following their decisive victory in Ethiopia’s parliamentary elections.
In a message shared on X, PM Modi congratulated his Ethiopian counterpart and praised the Prosperity Party for securing a commanding mandate in the national polls.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s deep and longstanding relationship with Ethiopia. He noted that the two nations share historic, multifaceted and enduring ties.
PM Modi also recalled his visit to Ethiopia last year and expressed his desire to continue working closely with Abiy Ahmed Ali to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and people-to-people connections.

According to official results announced by Ethiopia’s National Election Board (NEBE), the Prosperity Party emerged victorious in the country’s seventh General Election held on June 1.
The NEBE declared that the ruling party won 438 of the 486 contested seats in the House of Peoples’ Representatives, Ethiopia’s lower chamber of Parliament.
Under the country’s Constitution, the majority party gains the right to form the government and nominate the Prime Minister.
PM Modi’s congratulatory message follows his landmark visit to Ethiopia in December last year, which provided fresh momentum to bilateral relations.
During the visit, both leaders reviewed cooperation in trade, investment, innovation, technology, education and capacity-building initiatives.
PM Modi also conveyed India’s readiness to expand collaboration in Digital Public Infrastructure, critical minerals, mining, clean energy, agriculture and food security.
The Prime Minister highlighted that Indian companies have invested more than $5 billion in Ethiopia, particularly in the manufacturing and pharmaceutical sectors, generating over 75,000 local jobs.
PM Modi also addressed a Joint Session of the Ethiopian Parliament, a special honour accorded during his first bilateral visit to the African nation.
