Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for collective and decisive action against terrorism while addressing leaders at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
During his remarks, PM Modi underlined the need to tackle terrorism in its entirety rather than focusing only on individual attacks or organisations.
The Prime Minister stressed that countries must target the wider network that enables terrorism to survive and expand. He highlighted four key areas requiring coordinated action – terror financing, recruitment, radicalisation and the existence of safe havens.
PM Modi said dismantling these interconnected elements was essential to weakening terrorist networks and preventing their continued growth.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was present as PM Modi delivered his remarks to the SCO leaders.
The Prime Minister’s strong message on terrorism came in the presence of representatives from countries that remain important stakeholders in regional security and stability.
PM Modi’s statement placed counter-terrorism cooperation at the centre of discussions involving the SCO member states. He further called for countries to strengthen coordination and adopt a comprehensive approach towards addressing the factors that sustain terrorism.
The Prime Minister emphasised that cutting financial support, preventing recruitment, countering radicalisation and denying terrorists safe havens would be crucial to defeating the broader terror ecosystem.
India has consistently advocated stronger international cooperation against terrorism and greater accountability for those supporting or facilitating terrorist activities.
PM Modi’s latest remarks reiterated New Delhi’s position that the international community must work collectively to confront terrorism and prevent networks that enable violence from operating freely.
The message, however, highlighted the importance of sustained cooperation among SCO members in promoting regional peace, security and stability.
