PM Modi Bats For Stronger Regional Ties At BIMSTEC Summit In Bangkok

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reiterated India’s commitment to enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors within the BIMSTEC region.

Addressing the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, PM Modi expressed hope that collective efforts by member nations would positively impact the lives of people in the region.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “With fellow BIMSTEC leaders at the Summit being held in Bangkok, Thailand. We reaffirm our commitment to boosting cooperation across diverse sectors. May our efforts bring a positive difference in people’s lives.”

Also present at the summit was Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government.

As a mark of respect, the leaders observed a minute of silence to honor the victims of the 28 March earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi met Myanmar’s Senior General Min Aung Hlaing to review bilateral ties and ongoing collaboration.

The Prime Minister also conveyed India’s condolences for the earthquake casualties and property loss.

Posting about the meeting on X, PM Modi posted, “Met Senior General Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. Once again expressed condolences on the loss of lives and damage of property in the wake of the recent earthquake. India is doing whatever is possible to assist our sisters and brothers of Myanmar in this critical time. We also discussed bilateral relations between India and Myanmar, particularly in sectors like connectivity, capacity building, infrastructure development and more.”

A day earlier, Prime Minister Modi held bilateral discussions with his Thai counterpart Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The talks focused on expanding political ties, defense cooperation, and strategic engagement.

Both sides also emphasized the need to deepen collaboration in fields such as digital innovation, education, tourism, health, science and technology, culture, and startups.
