Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday conferred the ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’, the country’s highest civilian and military honour, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his official visit to Jakarta.
The prestigious award recognises extraordinary service and reflects the strong and enduring relationship between India and Indonesia.
Instituted in 1959, the Bintang Adipurna is Indonesia’s highest national decoration, awarded to individuals for exceptional contributions.
With this recognition, Prime Minister Modi has now received more than 30 international honours from countries and global organisations, making him the most internationally decorated Indian leader.
The honour follows another major international recognition last month, when Seychelles conferred its highest award, the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’, on Prime Minister Modi for his leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development.
The Prime Minister dedicated that award to nations committed to combating climate change and protecting the environment for future generations.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi held bilateral talks with President Subianto to strengthen the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The leaders discussed expanding cooperation in defence, maritime security, trade, energy and the digital economy under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi received a grand ceremonial welcome at Jakarta’s Merdeka Palace and thanked President Prabowo Subianto for the warm reception, saying he was ‘deeply touched’ by the gesture.
The two leaders will also visit the UNESCO-listed Prambanan Temple complex to strengthen cultural ties.
This is Prime Minister Modi’s fourth visit to Indonesia and the first stop of his three-nation tour, which will also take him to Australia and New Zealand.
