Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritius counterpart Pravind Jugnauth are set to inaugurate a new Airstrip and St James Jetty, along with six community development projects on Agalega Island in Mauritius today. The inauguration will take place via video conferencing at 1 pm, as announced by the Prime Minister’s Office.

These projects symbolize the longstanding and robust development partnership between India and Mauritius, according to a statement from the PMO. They are expected to enhance connectivity between Agalega and mainland Mauritius, strengthen maritime security, and promote socio-economic development.

The launch of these initiatives follows the recent introduction of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and RuPay Card services in Mauritius by PM Modi and Mauritius counterpart Jugnauth on February 12, underscoring the significance of digital connectivity in bilateral relations.

During the UPI launch, PM Modi emphasized the role of fintech connectivity in fostering cross-border transactions and connections. He highlighted UPI’s capacity to unite partners with India, reflecting a commitment to modernizing historical relations through digital means.

The co-branded RuPay card, integrated with Mauritius’ national payment switch, signifies a new milestone in the bilateral relationship, further strengthening the deep-rooted cultural, commercial, and people-to-people linkages between the two nations.
