According to government officials, the Taliban forbade women and families from dining in restaurants in Herat province of Afghanistan that had gardens or other outdoor areas. He added that the action was taken in response to objections from religious academics about the mixing of genders in such settings.

Azizurrahman Al Muhajir, head of the Vice and Virtue directorate in Herat said, “It was like a park but they named it a restaurant and men and women were together. Thank God it has been corrected now. Also, our auditors are observing all the parks where men and women go.”
Why was it much needed in Afghanistan
Authorities added that the rule had been implemented because of gender mixing as women were allegedly not correctly donning the hijab. The rule, according to Baz Mohammad Nazir, a deputy official from the Ministry of Vice and Virtue’s directorate in Herat, only applied to restaurants with parks and did not apply to other eateries. “After repeated complaints from scholars and ordinary people, we set limits and closed these restaurants,” he said.

Repercussions to be faced by people who do not abide by the rule
He also said that any businesses that the future broke the new law will be shut down. He also said that due to inappropriate content, minors were no longer allowed in gaming arcades.”Internet cafes, where students learn and use for their studies, are necessary and we have allowed them,” he said.
The Taliban has imposed a series of restrictions in Afghanistan since they took power in August 2021. They are not allowing education for girls beyond the sixth grade and women in universities.
