The latest twist in the ongoing feud between Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump has taken a political turn, with the Tesla and SpaceX chief announcing his intention to launch a new political party—the America Party.
Musk had previously declared that if Trump’s sweeping tax and spending bill, titled One Big Beautiful Bill, passed the US Senate, he would found the party.
On Wednesday, the bill was approved, and so the drama began.
Calling the bill a ‘disgusting abomination’ and ‘insane’, Musk warned that the legislation could add a staggering $3.3 trillion to the national debt.
His condemnation sparked a fierce exchange with Trump, whom Musk publicly suggested should be impeached.
He also accused the administration of concealing ties between Trump and the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Following the Senate vote, the hashtag #MuskWantsToBuildAnAmericaParty trended on Weibo, China’s largest social media platform, amassing over 37 million views within hours.
Chinese netizens responded with enthusiasm and support.
“If Elon Musk were to found a political party, his tech-driven mindset could inject fresh energy into politics. The potential for change is significant—and worth watching,” one Weibo user commented.
Another stated, “When you’ve had enough, there’s no need to keep putting up with it.”
The most striking post read, “Brother Musk, you’ve got over a billion people on our side backing you.”
Elon Musk holds a rare celebrity status in China. Tesla remains the only major Western carmaker successfully competing with local Chinese brands, giving Musk a strong foothold in the market.
His business ties extend to Chinese leadership, including Premier Li Qiang, while his mother, Maye Musk, is already a well-known public figure in China.
Moreover, Chinese readers have long admired American tech innovators. Walter Isaacson’s biographies of Steve Jobs and Musk have both become bestsellers in the country, further cementing Musk’s appeal.
In response to the backlash, Trump posted on his platform Truth Social that Musk would have to ‘close up shop and head back home to South Africa’ if federal subsidies were withdrawn.
Musk swiftly countered the claim on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I am literally saying CUT IT ALL. Now,” calling Trump’s bluff and doubling down on his anti-subsidy stance.
As Musk continues to tease the launch of his America Party, global observers—especially in China—are watching closely.
Whether this political ambition takes real shape or not, Musk’s influence beyond business is clearly growing.
