Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam on Tuesday expressed deep appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, acknowledging India’s extensive contributions to Mauritius’ development.
He emphasized the long-standing cultural and historical ties between the two nations and thanked PM Modi for extending OCI cards to Mauritian citizens.
Speaking at an event for the Indian community, PM Ramgoolam stated, “It is very rare for politicians like us not to be able to say what you want to say. I am bereft of words because I am so touched by the gesture of Prime Minister.”
Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam expressed his appreciation for PM Modi’s presence as the Chief Guest at Mauritius’ 57th Independence Day celebrations, despite his demanding schedule.
“When you come here, you enrich our country as well. Mauritius greatly appreciates your contributions across various sectors of the economy,” Mauritius Prime Minister remarked.
Highlighting key areas of cooperation, PM Ramgoolam noted India’s role in Mauritius’ construction industry, tourism, healthcare, hospitality, and financial services – sectors critical to the nation’s economic progress.
Mauritius PM also acknowledged the growing demand for OCI cards among Mauritians, attributing it to the shared cultural heritage.
“By the virtue of the deep cultural, historical ties that bind our two countries India has offered unparalleled accessibility to countless Mauritians; with this is a high demand for OCI,” PM Ramgoolam noted.
Mauritius PM recalled that indentured laborers arrived in Mauritius carrying only the Bhagavad Gita, the Ramayana, courage in their hearts, and memories of their homeland.
PM Ramgoolam noted that this intrinsic bond kept them tied unshakably to the motherland.
Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam expressed gratitude to India for extending OCI card eligibility to the seventh generation of Mauritians of Indian descent, further strengthening the link between the two nations.
Encouraging Indian investors to explore opportunities in Mauritius, he highlighted the ‘Bridge to the Future’ investment program, aimed at simplifying business processes and attracting global investments.
Concluding his address, he further reaffirmed the strong ties between the two nations, saying, ‘Jai Hind, Jai Mauritius’.
