Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the deep-rooted ties between India and Mauritius, linking the recently concluded Maha Kumbh Mela to the island nation.

PM Modi acknowledged that while many families participated in the Maha Kumbh Mela, some could not.

To honor their devotion, PM Narendra Modi brought the holy Sangam water, which will merged with Ganga Talab tomorrow.

Addressing the Indian community at the Trianon Convention Centre, Prime Minister Modi stated, “Many families from Mauritius attended the Maha Kumbh recently. The world was surprised to see the world’s largest gathering attended by 65-66 crore people.”

“Many families of Mauritius could not attend the Maha Kumbh. I was concerned about their sentiments. Hence, I brought the holy water from the Sangam from the time of Maha Kumbh. This holy water will merged into the Ganga Talab tomorrow. I pray that Mauritius reaches new heights of prosperity by the grace of Maa Ganga,” PM Modi asserted.

Reflecting on history, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about Indian freedom fighters, brought to Mauritius 200 years ago.

“When, 200 years ago, Indian freedom fighters were brought here by deceit, they were tortured, but in those tough times, Lord Ram and Ramcharitmanas gave them strength and inspiration,” PM Modi remarked.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled his 1998 visit to Mauritius for the International Ramayan Conference. He emphasized that the spiritual connection between the two nations remains strong.

“I came here in 1998 to attend the International Ramayan Conference. I can still experience that faith today, which I experienced years ago,” PM Modi noted.

The Prime Minister further added, “The same emotions were witnessed last year when Lord Ram Lalla’s Pran Pratishtha was organised in Ayodhya. The Mauritius government also announced a half-day holiday. This connection of faith is the base of the friendship between India and Mauritius.”

The event saw enthusiastic participation from the Indian diaspora, including professionals, students, and socio-cultural organizations. Business leaders and dignitaries from the Mauritian government were also present.

PM Modi thanked Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam for his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

In a symbolic move, Prime Minister Modi presented Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cards to PM Ramgoolam and his spouse, Mrs Veena Ramgoolam.
