India goes ahead with its long-term strategy of transitioning to a ‘low emissions’ phase and thus the pathway does involve more nuclear power along with more ethanol.
Each and every member of the 195 countries being signatories to the UN climate agreements, is obliged for submitting their long-term strategy papers by the end of the year. As the latest addition to it, India has also done so.
On Monday, 14th of November 2022, India has announced its long-term strategy towards transitioning to a “low emissions” phase with its strategy at the UN Conference of Parties (COP). The significant conglomeration is going on in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh.
India reveals its plan to premise on expanding its nuclear power capacity which can go above three-fold level in the decade to come. Aspiring to become an international hub in order to increase the Petrol ethanol proportion and produce green hydrogen.
Indian Environment Minister, Bhupendra Yadav revealed the steps as per the long term plan. Being consonant with India’s “5-decade walk” towards net zero India expects being carbon neutral by the year 2070.
Yadav also referred to the commitment made by PM Modi at Glasgow in 2021 during the 26th COP.
“The Long Term-Low Emission Development Strategy plan has been prepared with the Indian India referring to its right to a fair and equitable share of the carbon budget at the global level. India has ensured that the plan will give emphasis over energy access, energy security along with employment, keeping an eye on our vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat,” says the Environment Minister.
