Following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s divisive remarks on the royal family, pundits are calling on the Firm—especially King Charles—to uphold their honour and refrain from launching retaliatory strikes. The royal family has been counselled not to descend to Harry and Meghan’s level, notwithstanding the couple’s assertions, which include allegations of racism inside the family.
Harry and Meghan publicly voiced their complaints in a televised interview with Oprah Winfrey following their departure from royal duties in 2020. In response to rumours, Meghan said that Kate Middleton was the one who had made her cry the night before her wedding. After moving to the United States, Prince Harry disclosed that his father, Prince Charles, had stopped answering his calls and cut him off financially. The most serious accusation was that a royal who shall remain nameless was worried about their son’s skin tone.

The Palace responded to these allegations with a statement expressing concern, particularly with reference to the racial issue. On the other hand, pundit Dr Ed Owens stressed how crucial it is that the royal family ignores “low-blow” criticism. “All they can do is continue in a dignified manner,” he said. Getting back to Harry and Meghan will only make the stories more dramatic. They must remain respectfully silent and at a distance, no matter how challenging that may be.

According to historian Katie Nicholl, Prince Charles thought about responding to each accusation individually at first but decided against it in order to minimise the harm. Dr Owens stressed that the royal family shouldn’t act in a way that supports Harry and Meghan’s assertions. Instead, in the face of criticism, they ought to remain composed and dignified.
Public opinion will surely be shaped by the royal family’s response, which will be closely observed by the public. They can preserve the monarchy’s integrity and preserve their own honour by remaining silent in the face of persistent difficulties.
