Karoline Leavitt will step down from her role as White House Press Secretary at the end of August, with President Donald Trump confirming her departure.
Trump said Leavitt, whom he described as a trusted member of his team, plans to leave the administration to devote more time to her young children and family.
Despite leaving the White House, Leavitt will continue working with Trump as an external adviser and is expected to maintain a prominent role within the Republican Party as the midterm elections approach.
Reflecting on her time in the position, Leavitt described her tenure as an especially significant period in her professional life. She expressed gratitude to Trump for allowing her to work in the West Wing, accompany him on overseas trips, interact with international leaders, and represent his administration at White House briefings.
Leavitt also pointed to her efforts to promote the administration’s achievements and challenge what she regarded as unfair coverage from liberal media outlets.
Leavitt said the demands of the press secretary’s position became increasingly difficult to manage after she welcomed her daughter. She explained that the role required a level of time and commitment that made it difficult for her to provide the attention she wanted to give her two young children.
As a result, Leavitt decided to leave the administration and begin a new phase of her personal and professional life.

Trump has not revealed who will take over as White House press secretary.
Reports say the White House is considering David Warrington, Will Scharf, Steven Cheung and Abigail Jackson as potential candidates for the position.
Trump praised Leavitt’s performance, calling her one of the strongest press secretaries in the history of the office and recognising her contribution to both his administration and 2024 presidential campaign.
