In the times when ChatGPT has become all-pervasive and a go-to solution for one and all. This Artificial Intelligent (AI) platform is facing a major setback since Italy has banned it. Italy fears that the AI tool violated the country’s policies on data collection. The maker of ChatGPT, OpenAI, has been charged with data theft by Italy’s data security agency. Additionally, ChatGPT lacks an age-verification mechanism, according to the Italian government, which could expose children to inappropriate content.
The AI tool replies to this incident
When a ChatGPT used asked the tool if it will be banned from Italy, the reply of the same was shocking. “There should be no concerns…I am an artificial intelligence language model that can be accessed from anywhere in the world as long as there is an internet connection,” the tool stated.
But the organization has assured that they will further train their AI tool to provide better privacy. They said, “We actively work to reduce personal data in training our AI systems like ChatGPT because we want our AI to learn about the world, not about private individuals”. We also believe that AI regulation is necessary.”

Following the ban, ChatGPT founder Sam Altman said Italy is one of his favorite countries and added, “We of course defer to the Italian government and have ceased offering ChatGPT in Italy (though we think we are following all privacy laws). Italy is one of my favorite countries and I look forward to visiting again soon!”

$22 million fine imposition
Regulators in Italy might levy a fine of about $22 million, or 4% of the AI tool’s yearly global revenue. Italian regulators have told the mother company to block the tool’s access for all Italian citizens until the company is able to provide additional information regarding the matter.
The Italian government has sought the data break of 20th March that exposed the fact that Chat GPt was collecting data and payment details for its users.
