Israel has received a shipment of MK-84 heavy bombs following the lifting of a US delivery ban, the Israeli Defence Ministry announced on Sunday.
The MK-84, a 907-kg unguided bomb, can penetrate reinforced targets and cause extensive damage with its powerful blast. The shipment arrived at Ashdod Port late on Saturday and the authorities unloaded it overnight, according to a ministry spokesperson.
The Biden administration had previously halted the delivery of MK-84 bombs over concerns about their potential use in Gaza’s densely populated areas. Since October 2023, Israeli bombings and ground attacks in Gaza have killed tens of thousands of people.
Following the policy shift under US President Donald Trump, the latest shipment was approved. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz expressed gratitude to Trump and his administration, calling the delivery a significant asset for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
Since the outbreak of the Gaza war on October 7, 2023, Israel has received:
•76,000 tons of military equipment
•678 airlifts of arms and supplies
•129 sea shipments
The shipment of MK-84 bombs underscores the continued US-Israel military alliance and its impact on the ongoing conflict.
