A 4.0-magnitude earthquake shook the Delhi-NCR region early Monday morning, startling residents and prompting many to rush out of their homes.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the tremors were recorded at 5:36 A.M. at a depth of 5 km, with the epicenter located at latitude 28.59° N and longitude 77.16° E. The quake affected areas including Delhi, Noida, Indirapuram, and other parts of the National Capital Region (NCR).
The NCS confirmed the event on social media platform X, posting:
“EQ of M: 4.0, On: 17/02/2025 05:36:55 IST, Lat: 28.59 N, Long: 77.16 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: New Delhi, Delhi.”
Political leaders expressed concern for public safety:
The tremors lasted only a few seconds but were intense enough to cause panic. Thankfully, no casualties or property damage have been reported.
Delhi-NCR lies in Seismic Zone IV, making it prone to moderate to strong earthquakes. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and follow earthquake safety protocols.
Experts continue to monitor the situation, and while the immediate threat has passed, earthquake preparedness and awareness remain essential for the region’s safety.
