Iraq Condemns Israel’s Gaza Siege; Demands Immediate Humanitarian Access

The Iraqi government has issued a forceful condemnation of Israel’s ongoing military siege on Gaza, describing it as a ‘brutal’ and ‘inhumane’ policy that is causing severe suffering among Palestinian civilians.

In a statement released Wednesday, government spokesperson Basim al-Awadi called for urgent international intervention to end the blockade and allow life-saving aid to enter the enclave.

Iraq Slams ‘Systematic Starvation’ of Palestinians

Iraq accused Israeli forces of deliberately starving the Palestinian population through a siege that has restricted food, fuel, and medical supplies.

“This inhumane and systematic policy of starving our afflicted Palestinian brothers and sisters is a grave violation of human dignity,” said al-Awadi.

He described the suffering in Gaza as ‘heartbreaking’, referencing scenes of starving children waiting in long lines for food and civilians crowding around the few remaining aid trucks, many of which have reportedly become targets of Israeli gunfire.

Calling on the international community, the Iraqi government urged immediate intervention to pressure Israel to lift the siege and allow emergency humanitarian assistance into Gaza.

“The Iraqi government demands an end to this starvation policy and calls for a coordinated global effort to relieve the suffering of the Palestinian people,” the statement read.

Gaza’s Humanitarian Crisis Worsens

Gaza’s health authorities reported on Wednesday that Israeli military actions since March 18 have resulted in 8,363 deaths and 31,004 injuries, bringing the total death toll since October 2023 to 59,219, with 1,43,045 injured.

Officials said Israeli troops opened fire on civilians waiting for aid, causing several recent deaths.

In the last 24 hours alone, 10 Palestinians reportedly died from starvation and malnutrition, raising the total number of such deaths to 111 since March 2025.

Since March 2025, Israel has imposed a complete closure of Gaza, blocking all humanitarian aid and commercial shipments. Aid groups and global health organisations have warned of an impending famine, widespread disease, and the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system.

With over 54,000 Palestinians already dead and 123,000 injured since the conflict began, international humanitarian agencies have intensified calls for an uninterrupted flow of food, medicine, and fuel to Gaza’s civilians.

Iraq Stands Firm in Solidarity with Gaza

The Iraqi government reaffirmed its solidarity with the Palestinian people, condemning what it called ‘immoral practices’ by Israeli forces and stressing the urgency of coordinated international action to prevent further civilian suffering.

As the crisis deepens, pressure is mounting globally for a diplomatic resolution and immediate humanitarian relief in Gaza.
