Mojtaba Khamenei, the newly appointed Supreme Leader of Iran, has renewed Tehran’s demand for compensation from what he described as its ‘enemy’. The statement appeared on his official account on the messaging platform Telegram.
In the post, Khamenei declared that Iran would seek reparations for damages caused during the ongoing conflict. He warned that if the adversary refused to compensate, Iran would seize equivalent assets or destroy property matching the losses.
Earlier in his first national message, Khamenei emphasised continued resistance against foreign pressure. He stated that the strategic Strait of Hormuz would remain closed as part of Iran’s response.
The message also vowed retaliation for those killed in the conflict. Khamenei asserted that Iran would avenge the deaths of what he called the nation’s ‘martyrs’.
Iranian state television broadcast the written statement, which a female presenter read to the public.
The communication further warned that Tehran might open additional fronts if required.
It also stated that Iran seeks cordial relations with neighbouring countries and would target only facilities used to launch attacks against it.
According to reports from Iran International, authorities released the message without confirming the leader’s exact location or health condition.
Meanwhile, Pete Hegseth, the Defence Secretary of the United States, claimed that Khamenei had been injured and forced into hiding as American strikes intensified. He made the remarks during a briefing at the Pentagon.
On February 28, joint military operations by Israel and the United States targeted Tehran and other Iranian cities.
The attacks killed former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, senior commanders and civilians.
Iran responded with missile and drone strikes against Israel and US installations across the Middle East.
Iran’s Assembly of Experts appointed Mojtaba Khamenei as the country’s new Supreme Leader on March 8.
