The Indian Ocean Ship IOS Sagar reached Chattogram harbour in Bangladesh on Friday as part of efforts to strengthen maritime cooperation between India and Bangladesh.
According to the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh, the visit is linked to the IOS SAGAR 2026 multinational deployment programme focused on enhancing regional naval coordination and operational interoperability in the Indian Ocean region.
The vessel completed its transit through the Bay of Bengal before the Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Ali Haider received it in Bangladeshi waters and escorted it to the harbour.
The Indian High Commission described the visit as another example of the close partnership between the Indian Navy and the Bangladesh Navy.
During the port call, the commanding officer of IOS Sagar will likely hold meetings with senior Bangladesh Navy officials, including the Commander Chattogram Naval Area, the Commander Bangladesh Naval Fleet and the Area Superintendent Dockyard.
The discussions aim to expand professional exchanges and maritime collaboration between the two countries.
Several official and ceremonial programmes will also take place during the visit.
Ceremonial Events Scheduled
The Bangladesh Navy will host a welcome reception for the Indian delegation, while IOS Sagar will organise a deck reception later to mark the successful completion of the visit.
The commanding officer will likely participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Chattogram Commonwealth War Cemetery to honour those who made sacrifices during shared historical events.
In addition, the two sides will hold meetings with the Chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority to discuss maritime logistics and port security issues.
Naval personnel from both sides will also take part in cross-deck interactions and mutual ship visits aimed at strengthening operational understanding and cooperation.
The crew of IOS Sagar is further likely to visit the BNS ISSA KHAN Training Complex and the Bangladesh Naval Academy as part of professional exchange activities related to naval training and capacity building.
The Indian High Commission said the visit reflects India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and its MAHASAGAR initiative, which focuses on security and growth cooperation across the Indian Ocean region.
