People from diverse backgrounds participated in Yoga activities across several Western countries on Saturday as preparations intensified for the International Day of Yoga 2026.
The programmes reflected the increasing acceptance of Yoga as a practice that promotes overall well-being and social unity.
A large gathering in Toronto brought together public officials, diplomats, wellness groups, Yoga instructors, and residents for a community Yoga session held near Ontario’s Legislative Assembly building.
Speaking at the event, the Consul General of India described Yoga as a practice that connects people beyond geographical, cultural, and language differences.
Focusing on the theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’, organisers conducted a coordinated session that encouraged healthier living and stronger community engagement.
In Brazil, Ambassador of India to Brazil Dinesh Bhatia led participants through a Yoga programme at the renowned Foz do Iguaçu waterfalls.
The event served as an early celebration of International Day of Yoga and showcased the harmony between Yoga and the natural environment.
International Day of Yoga activities in Aarhus were organised by the Danish Yoga Association and the Danish Yoga Team at the Dokk1 cultural centre.
During the programme, Ambassador Manish Prabhat shared a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed to Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. He also outlined how regular Yoga practice can support healthy ageing by improving physical fitness, flexibility, and mental wellness.
Around 100 participants attended the session and practised Yoga techniques they can apply in their daily lives.
In the United States, hundreds assembled at Washington DC’s Lincoln Memorial to participate in International Day of Yoga celebrations organised by the Embassy of India.
The event also reinforced the message that Yoga remains relevant for individuals of all ages and abilities.
