Indian-Origin Student Attacked in Chicago, Pleads For ‘HELP’ in Video

CCTV footages show the student being chased by three of the attackers near his Chicago home.

An Indian student in Chicago was captured on camera bleeding heavily after being attacked by robbers, and he could be heard frantically pleading for assistance. His family in Hyderabad is worried about the incident and has pushed the government to let his wife come visit him in the US.

In a video Syed Mazahair Ali, who was bleeding heavily from his mouth and nose was seen pleading for ‘help.’

 

Syed is a student at the Indiana Wesleyan University pursuing his master’s degree.

“Four people attacked me when I was returning home. I slipped near my house and they kicked and punched me, Please help me, bro, please help me,” he was heard saying.

Letter from his wife

Syeda Ruquliya Fatima Rizvi, wife of the victim has written to Foreign Minister S Jaishankar asking for his proper treatment in this dire situation.

In the letter, Syeda wrote, “I am very much worried about the safety and security of my husband in Chicago, USA. I request you to kindly help him in getting the best medical treatment and if possible kindly make necessary arrangements so I can travel to the USA along with my three minor children to be with my husband.”

Similar incidences of violence against Indian students

Several other incidences of attacks on Indian students are being reported. This news comes in the wake of four Indian-origin students being found dead in the United States this year.

A 19-year-old student Shreyas Reddy Beniger, who held an American passport was found dead last week. Authorities denied any foul play in the death of the student.

Neel Acharya, another Indian-origin student was discovered dead on the Purdue University campus earlier that week. his mother reported him missing hours before he was discovered and blamed the police for the delay in the search.

In Georgia’s Lithonia a 25-year-old student Vivek Saini, from Haryana, was hammered to death by a homeless man. Akul Dhawan, another Indian student, was found dead outside the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in January.
