The Indian Embassy in Berlin organised a solemn memorial service on Friday to honour the victims of the brutal terror attack that occurred on 22 April in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The attack, which claimed 26 innocent lives, was carried out by The Resistance Front (TRF), a known proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The embassy welcomed over 100 attendees, including senior officials from Germany’s Federal Government, members of the diplomatic corps, and Indian diaspora representatives.
Together, they observed a moment of silence and paid tribute to those who lost their lives.
Ambassador Gupte Condemns Terrorism And Shares PM Modi’s Message
India’s Ambassador to Germany, Ajit Gupte, led the tributes with a heartfelt speech.
He conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong condemnation of the attack and reiterated India’s resolve to fight terrorism in all its forms.
Ambassador Gupte also highlighted the attackers’ motive to destabilise peace and disrupt the increasing normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir.

“This heinous act aimed to undermine the region’s growing stability and tourism,” he stated, urging continued global support against terrorism.
Those in attendance expressed deep solidarity with India’s efforts to combat terrorism. Many offered personal tributes at the memorial and emphasised the importance of justice and peace.
The Indian community in Germany also joined in paying respects, reaffirming unity during a time of grief.
German Chancellor Scholz Strongly Condemns The Attack
In response to the tragedy, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz condemned the incident in a message posted on X, describing it as a “cowardly terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam.” He extended condolences to the victims’ families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, and we wish the injured a speedy recovery. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the people of India,” Scholz wrote.
India And Germany Discuss Terrorism And Strengthen Cooperation
Further underscoring bilateral solidarity, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Jens Plötner, Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to Chancellor Scholz, on 24 April.
The two discussed the Pahalgam attack and explored ways to deepen strategic cooperation.
Jaishankar acknowledged Germany’s support, posting: “Pleased to meet Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to German Chancellor Jens Plotner today.
Appreciate Germany’s expression of solidarity on the recent terrorist attack in India.”
A Call For Unity Against Terrorism
The memorial in Berlin served not only as a tribute to the victims but also as a reaffirmation of international unity against terrorism.
As diplomatic ties between India and Germany continue to strengthen, both nations remain committed to promoting peace, security, and justice.
