US President Donald Trump on Monday congratulated the people of India as the nation celebrated its 77th Republic Day, highlighting the shared democratic foundations that unite the two countries.

Trump’s message was released by the US Embassy in India through the social media platform X.

In his statement, Trump extended his congratulations to both the Indian government and its citizens, stating that the democratic traditions of the two nations continue to strengthen their bilateral relationship.

“On behalf of the people of the United States, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the government and people of India as you celebrate your 77th Republic Day. The United States and India share a historic bond as the world’s oldest and largest democracies. – President Donald J Trump,” US Embassy India posted on X.

In his statement, Trump extended his congratulations to both the Indian government and its citizens, stating that the democratic traditions of the two nations continue to strengthen their bilateral relationship.

The message reflected Washington’s intent to further enhance political, economic and strategic engagement with New Delhi.

Rubio Reiterates Strength of Bilateral Partnership

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also conveyed his greetings to India on the occasion of Republic Day. He noted that India–US cooperation has expanded across areas such as defence, energy security, critical minerals and advanced technologies.

Rubio pointed to collaborative frameworks like the Quad, stating that the partnership has delivered meaningful outcomes for both countries and contributed to stability in the Indo-Pacific region. He expressed confidence in continued collaboration to achieve shared goals in the coming year.

India observes Republic Day every year on January 26 to commemorate the enforcement of the Constitution in 1950, marking the nation’s transition into a sovereign democratic republic. The day features ceremonial events in New Delhi, including the national parade, along with celebrations held across the country.

In December, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump held a telephone conversation to review progress in bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international developments.

Both leaders stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in trade expansion and cooperation in defence, energy and critical technologies.

The discussions reaffirmed commitment to strengthening the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and advancing shared interests on the global stage.
