Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico on Monday explored new avenues of cooperation across several sectors and exchanged views on key regional and global issues during bilateral talks in Bratislava.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), both leaders reviewed the full spectrum of India-Slovakia relations and discussed expanding collaboration in trade and investment, defence and security, technology and innovation, space and nuclear energy, education and culture, talent mobility, and people-to-people exchanges.
The two leaders also shared perspectives on regional and international developments, including the reform of the United Nations.
The MEA noted that the implementation of the historic India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) would create significant opportunities in trade, manufacturing, investment, and employment generation, particularly for young people.
India and Slovakia agreed to elevate their bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Partnership. The discussions resulted in several outcomes covering digital technology, defence, cybersecurity, post-quantum technologies, audio-visual creation, mobility, and scientific cooperation, including nuclear collaboration.
Following the meeting, PM Modi thanked Prime Minister Fico for the warm welcome at Bratislava Castle and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening friendship with Slovakia.
Both leaders also viewed an exhibition of paintings created by Slovak children inspired by Panchatantra and Jataka tales.
The MEA said the artworks reflected the growing cultural ties between the two countries.
Addressing a joint press conference with PM Fico, PM Modi described the visit as a historic moment, noting that it marked the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia. He said the decision to elevate ties to a Comprehensive Partnership reflected the shared trust, priorities, and future vision of both nations.
Highlighting technology as a key pillar of future cooperation, PM Modi said the Memorandum of Understanding signed on digital technology would open new opportunities for collaboration in digital public infrastructure.
