By postponing the conviction of Imran Khan along with a three-year prison sentence in the Toshakhana case, the Islamabad High Court issued a landmark legal decision. According to media reports, a division bench headed by Chief Justice Aamir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri announced the long-awaited decision.
The pending appeal
Imran Khan’s appeal challenging his conviction in the Toshakhana corruption case was still waiting at the IHC on Monday. “Our application has been accepted, and the sentence has been suspended,” Panjutha said on messaging platform X (formerly Twitter).
According to reports, further court judgments that authorized Khan’s arrest in various cases are the reason for the uncertainty regarding whether his release would be guaranteed as a result of the High Court’s decision. The repercussions of the ban on his electoral participation are not yet evident.

Imran Khan guilty in Toshakhana case
Imran Khan, the 70-year-old leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had already been found guilty and given a three-year prison sentence by a lower court in Islamabad. He was found guilty by the court in the Toshakhana corruption case of illegally selling state gifts. Additionally, the court barred him from politics for a period of five years.
Imran Khan, a former cricketer who became a politician, was found guilty of selling official gifts that he and his family had received when he was in office from 2018 to 2022. Additionally, he received a five-year ban on political activity, effectively excluding him from taking part in any upcoming elections. “Judge Humayun Dilawar announced that involvement in corrupt practices has been proven,” reported media agency quoting Pakistan TV.

150 cases on Ex-Pak PM
Imran Khan has become embroiled in more than 150 legal issues since being removed from government in April of the previous year. On the other hand, he argues that these cases are being pursued for political reasons. Imran Khan’s legal counsel announced their plan to file an appeal as soon as possible after his detention.
