The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City killed a senior Hamas commander linked to the 7 October attacks on Israel.
The IDF announced on Friday that they targeted Ayman Showadeh, a deputy commander of Hamas’ Shejaiya Battalion, as part of a broader military operation.
Showadeh was reportedly a significant figure in Hamas’ operational strategy, directing numerous assaults against IDF personnel.
His death is part of a larger effort by the Israeli military, which claims to have eliminated over 150 “terrorists” in the Shejaiya neighborhood during recent operations, as reported by Xinhua.

For nearly two weeks, the IDF has focused its strikes on Shejaiya, aiming to dismantle active threats and their infrastructure.
The military confirmed on Wednesday that it had completed its mission in the area.
This escalation follows a large-scale offensive initiated in response to a Hamas attack on 7 October 2023, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 Israelis and the hostage-taking of over 200 individuals.
The ongoing conflict has led to intensified military actions by Israel aimed at countering Hamas’s influence in the Gaza Strip.
