Gaza Moves Toward Next Stage Of US-Brokered Peace Plan Following Hostage Returns

The White House announces Gaza is entering a ‘phase two’ of the US-brokered peace plan after nearly all hostages were returned. Officials focus on diplomacy and regional stability.

Gaza Moves Toward Next Stage Of US-Brokered Peace Plan Following Hostage Returns

The White House has indicated that Gaza is progressing into the ‘second phase’ of a US-led peace initiative, following the return of all hostages except one. Officials are quietly planning to shape the next stage of regional diplomacy.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described the current developments as a success, highlighting the role of President Donald Trump in advancing the initiative.

She noted that US negotiators are now implementing measures such as establishing a ‘Board of Peace’, coordinating with the Israel Security Forces (ISF), and setting up a Palestinian technocratic government.

Leavitt emphasised that discussions have been conducted quietly and with care. “They are trying to be deliberate and thoughtful… The Gaza Strip is something that people have been trying to accomplish for 70 years,” she said. The goal, she added, is to ensure a lasting and sustainable peace in the region.

Regarding broader geopolitical concerns, Leavitt declined to comment on a recent phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, describing it as non-concerning to the US administration.

Officials have not yet finalised a decision on whether they will participate in upcoming meetings with Europe and Ukraine amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Implications for India and Regional Stability

India, with its significant diaspora in the Middle East and reliance on energy imports from the region, has a vested interest in stability.

Any shifts in US policy toward Gaza could influence diplomatic calculations across Asia, including India’s careful balancing of relations with Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and Gulf states.

Efforts to establish a durable peace in Gaza have repeatedly encountered obstacles, including regional power dynamics, Iranian influence, and internal Palestinian divisions.

The United States continues to play a pivotal role in shaping post-conflict governance structures and security frameworks to support long-term stability in the region.
