Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France, where the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening India-Japan relations across key strategic and economic sectors.
Following the meeting, PM Modi described the interaction as highly positive and emphasised the importance of further strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and investment.

The discussions took place as both countries continue to expand their long-standing Special Strategic and Global Partnership, which was elevated in 2014.
India and Japan have steadily deepened cooperation over the past decade in areas such as infrastructure, defence, technology and energy security.
Japan remains one of India’s most important partners in infrastructure development, including flagship projects like the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail and several industrial corridor initiatives.
The leaders reviewed ongoing economic collaboration and discussed ways to accelerate investment flows and expand trade ties.
Japan continues to be among the largest foreign investors in India, with cumulative investments exceeding USD 38 billion.
The leaders discussed cooperation in semiconductors, critical minerals, clean energy and defence manufacturing, along with supply chain diversification and resilient economic frameworks. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues and reaffirmed the importance of closer coordination in multilateral forums.
PM Modi highlighted Japan’s role as a key development partner and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties under the Indo-Pacific vision.
