At the inaugural G-20 Tourism Ministerial Conference in Brazil, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to foster sustainable tourism and enhance cultural exchange.
During discussions organized by the World Travel and Tourism Council, Shekhawat urged stakeholders to work together to promote heritage tourism and innovative practices in the industry. He held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the conference, aiming to strengthen tourism ties with various countries.
Shekhawat met with Spain’s Tourism Minister Jordi Herreu i Bohr, where they explored avenues for enhancing tourism collaboration through direct contacts, trade fairs, and cultural exchanges. Additionally, he discussed eco-friendly travel and innovative infrastructure with Czech Republic’s Deputy Prime Minister Ivan Barto, focusing on mechanisms to facilitate increased tourist interactions between the nations.

In a productive meeting with Singapore’s Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Alwyn Tan Sheng Hui, Shekhawat highlighted the potential for bilateral tourism cooperation, stressing the importance of sustainability and infrastructure development. He expressed optimism about promoting tourism ties with Brazil, including discussions on joint cooperation agreements, visa facilitation, and increased air connectivity.
Shekhawat also engaged with Saudi Arabia’s Tourism Minister Ahmed bin Aqeel Al-Khatib, discussing youth training and development initiatives aimed at strengthening tourism ties between India and Saudi Arabia. Both ministers expressed their commitment to exploring collaborative opportunities for sustainable tourism development and enhancing people-to-people connections.
The conference serves as a platform to address the challenges and opportunities facing the global tourism sector while promoting international cooperation and cultural exchange.
