Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented specially curated Indian cultural gifts to Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Crown Princess Victoria during his visit to Sweden, highlighting India’s artistic traditions, literary heritage, sustainable craftsmanship and indigenous culture.
Among the gifts presented to Prime Minister Kristersson was a handcrafted Shantiniketan messenger bag from West Bengal.
Inspired by the artistic legacy of Shantiniketan, founded by Rabindranath Tagore, the GI-tagged leather craft blends traditional folk art with modern design while supporting rural artisans in Birbhum district.
Prime Minister Modi also gifted a curated collection of Rabindranath Tagore’s literary works, including ‘Words of the Master’.
Officials said the gift reflected the deep intellectual connection between India and Sweden through the Nobel tradition.
Tagore became the first non-European Nobel Laureate in Literature in 1913 for ‘Gitanjali’ and maintained close cultural links with Sweden through his visits and literary exchanges.
The Prime Minister further presented Loktak Tea from Manipur, cultivated around Loktak Lake through community-led and chemical-free farming practices.
The tea highlighted India’s sustainable farming traditions and Northeast India’s biodiversity.
Prime Minister Modi also gifted a Ladakh Pashmina stole, handwoven by local artisans using fine Changthangi wool.
For Crown Princess Victoria, PM Modi presented a traditional Gond painting and his book Convenient Action: Continuity for Change.
Officials said the gifts reflected India’s cultural richness while strengthening shared values of sustainability, creativity and cultural exchange between India and Sweden.
