During his State Visit to the Netherlands, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented specially curated gifts to Dutch leaders, showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage, traditional craftsmanship and folk-art traditions.
The gifts included Jaipur’s Blue Pottery, Meenakari and Kundan jewellery, and a Madhubani painting, each representing a unique aspect of India’s artistic identity.
Prime Minister Modi gifted King Willem-Alexander a piece of Blue Pottery from Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The GI-tagged Blue Pottery from Jaipur features vibrant cobalt-blue patterns and a distinctive glass-like finish.
Artisans craft it without clay, using quartz powder, powdered glass and Fuller’s earth, while specialised firing techniques create its signature translucent texture and floral motifs.
Officials said the craft also reflects a cultural connection with the Netherlands’ famous Delft Blue pottery tradition.
Prime Minister Modi gifted Queen Maxima Meenakari and Kundan earrings inspired by Rajasthan’s royal jewellery heritage. The earrings combined intricate enamel work, uncut gemstones and symbolic Dutch colours representing national pride and openness.
PM Modi also presented Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten with a Madhubani painting featuring a fish motif, symbolising prosperity and harmony.
The fish motif symbolised prosperity, harmony and ecological balance.
Officials said the artwork also reflected environmental themes linked to the Fish Migration River project at the Afsluitdijk in the Netherlands, which supports biodiversity and aquatic life restoration.
The carefully selected gifts highlighted India’s artistic traditions while strengthening cultural ties between India and the Netherlands through themes of heritage, sustainability and shared values.
