On Friday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) apprehended Harpreet Singh, a terrorist involved in multiple attacks in Punjab, India.
The arrest took place in Sacramento, California.
According to the FBI, Singh links himself to two international terrorist organizations and entered the United States illegally.
The authorities, however, reported that he had evaded capture for a time by using burner phones.
Taking to X, the FBI Sacramento posted, “Today, Harpreet Singh, an alleged terrorist responsible for terror attacks in Punjab, India, was arrested by the #FBI & #ERO in Sacramento. Linked to two international terrorist groups, he entered the U.S. illegally and used burner phones to evade capture.”

Singh’s name had, however, been prominent in investigations related to terrorist activities in India.
On 23 March, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet against him and three other operatives of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist organization, in connection with the 2024 grenade attack in Chandigarh.
Singh, who goes by the alias Happy Passia, was one of the main conspirators in the attack.
The 2024 Grenade Attack
The grenade attack, which occurred in September 2024, targeted a retired officer of the Punjab Police.
The assailants believed the officer lived in the house attacked.
Singh, along with Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh Sandhu (alias Rinda), had provided the necessary support for the attack, including funding, weapons, and ammunition.
The NIA chargesheet detailed how Singh and Sandhu directed local operatives, including Rohan Masih and Vishal Masih, to carry out reconnaissance of the target and execute the attack.
All four individuals have charged under several sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosive Substances Act, and other related laws.
Investigations are ongoing, with the NIA focusing on dismantling the BKI network in India.
In December of the previous year, the Punjab Police had already dismantled a terror module backed by Pakistan’s ISI, operated by Singh and fellow terrorist Shamsher (alias Honey).
This group was responsible for attacks on police establishments in Batala and Gurdaspur using hand grenades.
