Explosions Shake Kabul Amid Escalating Pak-Afghan Border Tensions

Kabul has witnessed a series of explosions over the past 24 hours, amid rising border clashes between Afghan and Pakistani forces. The latest blast occurred at 10 AM on Saturday, near the Interior Ministry’s office and Sheikh Zayed Hospital.

This follows an explosion on Friday, near the Indian Embassy in Kabul’s Shahri Naw area. No casualties have been reported in either incident, and the cause of the blasts remains unclear. Authorities have yet to release official statements.

The explosion near the Indian Embassy on Friday afternoon reportedly caused at least 17 injuries. A local source confirmed that a staff member from the Indian consulate in Jalalabad was also attacked on December 24.

These explosions coincide with heightened clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan. On Saturday, a fierce exchange of fire occurred on the Dande Pattan-Kurram border. Both sides reported casualties, but the exact toll is still unknown.

In Pakistan’s Bajaur district, heavy fighting with militants resulted in the deaths of four security personnel and injuries to 11 others, including a major officer. Casualties among militants were also reported.

As a result of the escalating violence, families in Afghanistan’s Landoro Sadiqo village, located in Khost province, have been forced to flee their homes.

The ongoing conflict has drawn attention from Pakistani officials. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently warned that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is a “red line” and called for decisive action from the Taliban-led Afghan government.

Sharif emphasized that the Afghan government must take firm action to stop attacks on Pakistan from TTP bases in Afghanistan. He stated, “If this continues, it will be unacceptable. Pakistan will defend itself at all costs.”

The border clashes intensified after Pakistan’s airstrikes targeted TTP hideouts in Afghanistan’s Paktika province. The Afghan Taliban condemned the strikes, vowing retaliation.

Enayatullah Khowarazami, a spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban, said, “The Islamic Emirate will not leave this cowardly act unanswered and considers the defence of its territory an inalienable right.”
