Explosion Near Election Commission Office in Balochistan Ahead of Pakistani Elections: Report

As the Pakistan General Elections approach, incidents of explosions and violence have surged in the country. Another bomb blast occurred outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office in Balochistan’s Nushki District on Sunday, according to ARY News. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

The police revealed that the explosive was detonated outside the gate of the ECP office. An inquiry is underway to determine the nature of the explosion. The area has been cordoned off, and a search operation is in progress to apprehend the culprits.

Just last week, another explosion targeted the Election Commission of Pakistan’s Karachi office. The explosive material was found in a shopping bag beside the office wall in Karachi’s red zone area, as stated by the SSP. Notably, the explosive substance did not contain ball bearings.

In response to the Karachi office explosion, the Election Commission of Pakistan has sought reports from the District Monitoring Officer and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South.

Meanwhile, six people, including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers, were injured in hand grenade attacks in various towns of Balochistan on Friday. Multiple incidents of violence have disrupted the pre-election environment in Balochistan and Karachi, with attacks targeting political entities and election-related offices.

In Kalat town’s Mughalsarai area, unidentified assailants on a motorcycle targeted the PPP’s election office, injuring three workers. Across different towns in Balochistan, including Kalat, several individuals sustained injuries in various hand grenade attacks.

With the general elections scheduled for February 8, concerns about the security situation in Pakistan have heightened amid these acts of violence.
