PM Modi To Unveil Guwahati Airport Terminal And Lay Foundation Stone For ₹10,601-Crore Fertiliser Plant

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new terminal of Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport and lay the foundation stone for the ₹10,601-crore Ammonia-Urea complex at Namrup in Assam.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met the Prime Minister in New Delhi on Tuesday. He formally invited him to the twin events. The occasions will significantly strengthen the state’s infrastructure and industrial capacity.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister announced that the Prime Minister had ‘graciously agreed’ to dedicate the new terminal to the nation.

Sarma described the upcoming airport terminal as a world-class facility. He said it will elevate Guwahati’s status as a leading aviation hub. The project is likely to enhance connectivity across the region.

The terminal, built with contemporary design and sustainable materials, is to handle over 1.3 crore passengers annually.

Officials said the project will ease congestion at the existing terminal. It will also strengthen Guwahati’s position as the gateway to Southeast Asia. The project will likely boost tourism and trade across the North East.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the ₹10,601-crore brownfield Ammonia-Urea complex at Namrup.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the plant would secure the fertiliser requirements of the entire North Eastern region and bolster agricultural productivity.

Sarma further added that these developments underscore the Centre’s sustained focus on the North East’s economic transformation.

“This state-of-the-art project will catapult Guwahati into a major aviation hub and will equip the city to handle over 1.3 cr passengers,” he stated.

People are expected to turn out in large numbers during the Prime Minister’s visit. Many see both projects as key to Assam’s growth story.

“Grateful that Adarniya Modi Ji has kindly consented. We eagerly await his visit,” Sarma further posted, expressing gratitude for the Prime Minister’s support.
