Elon Musk-run X, formerly Twitter, suffered a major global outage on Monday, affecting users in India and worldwide. Millions were unable to access the platform, and the company has yet to provide an official reason for the disruption.
The outage, which lasted 30-40 minutes, began around 3:00 PM (IST). Some users regained access after a brief downtime. DownDetector, a platform that tracks outages, reported a huge spike in complaints as users turned to Facebook and Instagram to discuss the issue.
X Suffers Rare Outage Under Musk
During the downtime, X stopped working completely. Users were unable to post, read tweets, or open pages. Many reported errors when trying to access the comments section.
“Is Twitter down? Anyone getting the same issue?” a user asked on social media.
Since Musk acquired X for $44 billion in 2022, the platform has experienced fewer outages compared to Facebook and Instagram. Monday’s outage was among the largest in recent times.
X Increases Subscription Prices By 35%
The outage comes amid a steep price hike for X’s Premium+ subscription. The company recently raised prices by 35% in India and global markets.
In India, Premium+ users now pay ₹1,750 per month, up from ₹1,300.
The annual plan has increased to ₹18,300, up from ₹13,600.
In the US, the monthly subscription now costs $22, up from $16, while the annual plan jumped to $229 from $168.
The basic tier (₹243) and Premium tier (₹650) remain unchanged in India.
Despite the outage, X services resumed quickly, and user activity returned to normal.
