Following his highly anticipated interview with former U.S. President Donald Trump on X, tech mogul Elon Musk extended an invitation to Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris for a discussion on the platform. Musk announced the offer on the microblogging site, stating, “Happy to host Kamala on X Spaces too.”
The conversation between Trump and Musk, which experienced a delay of over 40 minutes due to technical issues, garnered 73 million views. Musk, however, claimed that the actual audience exceeded 200 million. He attributed the glitches to a cyber-attack.
Elon Musk, who reaffirmed his endorsement of Trump, described the discussion as “unscripted with no limits.” During the interview, Trump addressed topics such as immigration and inflation, while also criticizing Harris for avoiding interviews since announcing her presidential campaign.
Trump repeatedly targeted Harris, asserting that her securing the Democratic nomination amounted to a “coup.” He accused Harris of being a “radical left” supporter and claimed, “She hasn’t done an interview since this whole scam started, and say what you want, this was a coup. This was a coup of a president of the United States.”
These comments come as Harris’s campaign experiences a resurgence, with her replacing Biden as the Democratic nominee against Trump. Trump also pledged to initiate the “largest deportation in the history of this country” if re-elected.
The interview marked Trump’s return to X after the platform’s previous owners banned him following the January 6 Capitol riots. Musk later reinstated Trump’s account.
Reacting to the interview, Harris’s campaign spokesperson, Joseph Costello, criticized both Trump and Musk as “self-obsessed rich guys.” Costello stated, “Trump’s entire campaign is in service of people like Elon Musk and himself—self-obsessed rich guys who will sell out the middle class and who cannot run a livestream in the year 2024.”
