The two leaders discussed a range of issues, including bilateral cooperation, developments in West Asia, and collaboration within multilateral forums such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Jaishankar shared a photo of the meeting on X, posting: “Good to meet with FM Sergey Lavrov of Russia on the sidelines of #BRICS2025. Discussed bilateral cooperation, West Asia, BRICS and SCO.”

Russia reaffirms support against terrorism

The meeting came on a day when BRICS leaders collectively condemned the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 innocent people were killed.

In the wake of the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Russia had already conveyed its strong support for India’s anti-terrorism stance earlier in May.

During a visit to Moscow by an Indian all-party delegation led by MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, the Russian Federation Council’s Committee on International Affairs condemned the Pahalgam attack.

Andrey Denisov, First Deputy Chair of the committee, expressed Russia’s solidarity with India in its fight to eliminate terrorism in all its forms.

The Indian Embassy in Russia posted: “Russia stands in solidarity with India for the elimination of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations!”

Diplomatic outreach under Operation Sindoor

The Indian delegation’s Moscow visit was part of Operation Sindoor to expose Pakistan’s cross-border terrorism.

The campaign, however, sought to unite global voices against terrorism and reinforce India’s zero-tolerance policy.

In an official statement, the Indian Embassy in Moscow said: “The delegation would carry forth the country’s strong message of zero-tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”
