External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, reaffirming the strength of bilateral ties amid major geopolitical and economic shifts worldwide.
Discussions during the meeting focused on contemporary global developments, evolving power equations, and the need for closer coordination among like-minded countries.
During the conversation, Jaishankar conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to President Macron. He also exchanged views on regional security challenges, shifting global power balances, and the importance of sustained strategic engagement in an uncertain international environment.

India and France maintain a long-standing strategic partnership covering defence, space cooperation, civil nuclear energy, clean energy, and collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region. Both nations continue to view their partnership as a stabilising influence in an increasingly multipolar global order.
Leaders and officials from both countries have consistently emphasised shared values, strategic autonomy, and a commitment to a rules-based international system. The latest meeting further reinforced these common priorities.
Address to the French Diplomatic Corps
While in Paris, Jaishankar addressed France’s Ambassadors’ Conference, where he spoke about the sweeping changes reshaping global politics and economics. He underlined the growing role of trade, finance, technology, energy, resources, and connectivity in shaping international relations.
Beyond material factors, he highlighted that shifts in national mindsets have become a decisive element in responding to global change. He also described the India–France partnership as a key pillar supporting multipolarity and strategic autonomy.
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar participated in the inaugural India–Weimar format meeting in Paris alongside Polish Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.
The meeting marked India’s first engagement with the Weimar framework, signalling a new platform for structured dialogue with major European powers.
“We have been witnessing for quite some years now that churn in the Indo-Pacific. Europe is going through its own challenging circumstances, many of which have strategic implications. But beyond that, there have also been overarching developments that could redefine the global order itself. We may be located in different parts of the world, but despite that, perhaps even because of that, it is extremely useful for us to exchange views regularly and to share assessments,” Jaishankar said during the meeting.
He mentioned, “France is amongst our oldest strategic partners, the first in Europe, and I believe that our continuous conversation is an important part of nurturing that relationship.”
Overall, the visit highlighted India’s commitment to deepening engagement with France and Europe, while positioning the India–France partnership as a cornerstone of stability and cooperation in a rapidly changing global order.
