Donald Trump To Visit Beijing For High-Level Talks With Xi Jinping

US President Donald Trump will travel to Beijing this week for high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, with discussions expected to focus on trade, investment, artificial intelligence, Taiwan and broader security concerns.

According to the White House, Trump will arrive in Beijing on Wednesday evening and attend an official welcome ceremony before holding a bilateral meeting with Xi on Thursday morning.

The two leaders are also scheduled to tour the Temple of Heaven and attend a state banquet hosted by the Chinese government.

On Friday, Trump will join Xi for a bilateral tea and working lunch before departing China.

White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly described the visit as one of ‘tremendous symbolic significance’, while emphasising that the main focus would remain on advancing US economic interests and strengthening trade relations.

Kelly said the discussions would aim to rebalance trade between the two countries and prioritise the interests of American workers, farmers and businesses. She confirmed that both sides would discuss the creation of a US-China Board of Trade and a US-China Board of Investment to improve cooperation on trade and investment-related matters.

Officials said the proposed trade board could oversee government-level management of trade in non-sensitive goods, while the investment board would provide a platform for addressing investment concerns and expanding economic cooperation.

The two sides will discuss deals in aerospace, agriculture and energy, while Trump will raise concerns over China’s ties with Iran and AI-related security issues.

Washington reiterated that its Taiwan policy remains unchanged, despite increased arms sales to the island. The visit comes amid ongoing tensions over trade, technology and regional security.
