Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Special Session of the Guyanese Parliament during his visit to Guyana. He emphasized the shared struggles of India and Guyana for independence from colonization. PM Modi outlined the guiding principles of “Democracy first, humanity first” as central to both nations’ visions.
“Democracy teaches equality, while ‘humanity first’ determines the direction of decisions,” he said, asserting that decisions based on humanity yield results beneficial for the world.
India’s Global Leadership and Democratic Vision
PM Modi highlighted India’s leadership during global crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted India’s G20 Presidency mantra, “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” and the message of “One Earth, One Health.”
“Democracy is in India’s DNA,” he said, calling it the best tool to create inclusive societies. He urged the world to address the root causes of conflict and unite against shared challenges like terrorism, cybercrime, and drug trafficking.
Strengthening Ties with Caribbean Nations
PM Modi expressed gratitude to Guyana for bestowing its highest honor upon him. “I dedicate this honor to every Indian citizen,” he said.
Earlier, PM Modi met leaders from Caribbean nations, including Barbados, St. Lucia, and Trinidad & Tobago, at the India-CARICOM Summit. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in key areas.
PM Modi’s visit reinforced India’s commitment to democratic values, humanity, and global partnerships.
