A dam burst at the Kialimskoye Reservoir near Karabash in Russia’s Chelyabinsk region has led to significant flooding, affecting around 200 people, local authorities have reported.
The breach, which occurred at a major drinking water source for Karabash, has prompted the evacuation of residents from the villages of Kialim and Mukhametovo.
The Karabash municipal administration confirmed that floodwaters have expanded the affected zone, prompting the declaration of a state of emergency in the district.

TASS News Agency reported that flooding has already inundated one settlement, and authorities are evacuating three additional communities.
Recent heavy rainfall has worsened the flooding, with the Chelyabinsk Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring recording up to 73 mm of rain on 25 and 26 July, reaching up to 1.5 times the monthly norm in some areas.
Meteorologists have warned of continued severe weather on 27 July, including heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hail, with wind speeds potentially reaching 25 m/s.
The forecast predicts further significant increases in water levels in small rivers across the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, and Kurgan regions until 29 July.
