Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand will visit India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 13 to 16 to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties, Global Affairs Canada announced on Monday.
In New Delhi, Anand will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to advance cooperation in trade, energy, security, defence and people-to-people ties. Discussions will focus on priorities outlined in the bilateral roadmap.
The meeting will mark the 11th interaction between the two Foreign Ministers since September 2025, reflecting renewed diplomatic engagement between Ottawa and New Delhi.
Bilateral trade between Canada and India reached $30.4 billion in 2025, including $11 billion in goods, according to the Canadian government.
Both countries are seeking to expand their economic and strategic partnership amid evolving global economic and security challenges.
Anand will attend the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi, where she will join a panel discussion on middle powers and the changing global order.
Global Affairs Canada said she would highlight the importance of multilateral and plurilateral cooperation and reaffirm Canada’s role as a reliable partner for India and the wider Indo-Pacific region.
Canada and India have maintained diplomatic relations for nearly 80 years and share extensive people-to-people connections.
Following her India engagements, Anand will travel to the UAE for talks with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. She will further meet senior government officials and business leaders to explore opportunities for commercial partnerships in defence, security, artificial intelligence, innovation and people-to-people exchanges.
The visit will build on commitments made during Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s November 2025 trip to the UAE, the first visit by a Canadian Prime Minister in more than four decades.
Both countries established a roadmap to expand cooperation in trade, investment, regional security and bilateral exchanges.
