A tragic accident occurred in Nepal on Friday when a passenger bus carrying Indian tourists veered off the road and plunged 150 meters into the Marshyangdi River, resulting in at least 14 fatalities and 16 injuries, according to local reports.

The Indian Embassy in Nepal confirmed that the bus, en route from Pokhara to Kathmandu, was transporting around 43 Indian nationals.

The embassy has mobilized efforts to assist the victims and is coordinating with local authorities engaged in rescue operations.

For emergency assistance, the embassy has provided the contact number +977-9851107021.

The Kathmandu Post reported that the incident happened in Anbu Khaireni, located in Tanahun district of Central Nepal.

Authorities identified the bus, registered in Uttar Pradesh, as carrying approximately 40 passengers.

Armed Police Force (APF) DSP Shailendra Thapa further reported that rescuers recovered 14 bodies from the accident site and rushed 16 injured individuals to nearby hospitals.

Images and videos circulating on social media show the bus extensively damaged.

Eyewitnesses shared that the Keserwani Pariwahan bus, traveling from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, was transporting pilgrims from Maharashtra who had been visiting Pokhara for two days.

Meanwhile, rescue operations are ongoing, with initial attempts by helicopters proving unsuccessful in locating the bus. Local authorities and the Nepali Army are leading the rescue efforts.

The accident follows a recent disaster in Nepal where five Indian tourists were killed in a landslide in Chitwan district last month.

The region is currently grappling with the impacts of the monsoon season, which has caused severe flooding and landslides across the country.
