Slovakia welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a special tribute as Bratislava Castle shone in the colours of the Indian national flag. The symbolic display marked the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since the country gained independence in 1993.
The illuminated castle created a striking backdrop for the Prime Minister’s arrival and reflected the growing warmth in relations between the two nations.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the illuminated landmark as a symbol of the strong and evolving partnership between India and Slovakia.
The display of saffron, white, and green on one of Slovakia’s most recognisable monuments showcased the importance Bratislava places on its relationship with New Delhi.
Diplomatic observers viewed the gesture as a sign of Slovakia’s increasing interest in expanding cooperation with India across multiple sectors.
Prime Minister Modi held bilateral discussions with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico at Bratislava Castle, one of the country’s most prestigious state venues.
The landmark has long served as a centre for important national ceremonies and diplomatic engagements. Its selection as the venue for the talks added further significance to the visit and highlighted the importance both countries attach to their growing partnership.
History of Bratislava Castle
Situated atop the Little Carpathians, Bratislava Castle overlooks the Danube River and offers panoramic views extending into neighbouring Austria and Hungary.
The site traces its origins to thousands of years and evolved into a major fortress before Empress Maria Theresa transformed it into a grand Baroque residence in the eighteenth century.
Today, the castle houses the Slovak National Museum and remains a symbol of the nation’s history and identity.
The decision to illuminate Bratislava Castle in India’s national colours and host key meetings at the historic site underscored the strengthening relationship between the two countries.
The visit also highlighted a shared commitment to expanding cooperation and building a partnership with long-term strategic and cultural significance.
