PM Modi Speaks to Tarique Rahman After Election Win
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi held a telephone discussion with Tarique Rahman on Friday. During the call, he congratulated him on the electoral outcome and offered support in meeting public expectations in Bangladesh.
In his post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Delighted to speak with Mr. Tarique Rahman. I congratulated him on the remarkable victory in the Bangladesh elections. I conveyed my best wishes and support in his endeavour to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh.”
“As two close neighbours with deep-rooted historical and cultural ties, I reaffirmed India’s continued commitment to the peace, progress, and prosperity of both our peoples,” he further added.

The BNP-led alliance won 210 seats in Parliament, comfortably surpassing the threshold required to form the next government in Dhaka.
Tarique Rahman is likely to be sworn in as Prime Minister shortly, marking the first time in nearly three and a half decades that a man will hold the post. He assumed the party’s leadership after the passing of his mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, in December. He is also the son of former President Ziaur Rahman, who founded the BNP.
