Bangladesh Government Revokes Diplomatic Passports Of Ex-PM Hasina

The Bangladeshi Ministry of Home Affairs has taken a significant step as they have revoked Hasina’s diplomatic passport. The new directive affects former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and several others. Specifically, it includes her advisers, former cabinet members, and all members of the recently dissolved National Parliament.

On Thursday, the Ministry issued a formal notification about this decision. The document, signed by Faisal Hasan, a senior information officer, outlines the process for surrendering diplomatic passports. Additionally, the notification extends this directive to the family members of the aforementioned individuals.

The government has instructed that these diplomatic passports must be surrendered. In exchange, the authorities will issue general passports. This is to ensure that all affected individuals have valid identification.

However, the notification lacks specific details about the consequences for non-compliance. It does not mention what legal actions might be taken if someone fails to surrender their diplomatic passport. Consequently, the lack of clarity raises questions about enforcement.

Transitioning to the implications of this move, the revocation of diplomatic passports marks a significant shift. It could impact international travel and diplomatic engagements for those affected. Furthermore, it underscores the government’s efforts to enforce new regulations and maintain control over passport issuance.

In summary, the Bangladeshi government has acted decisively by revoking diplomatic passports. This measure affects a broad group, including former high-ranking officials and their families. The next steps will reveal how effectively these new regulations are implemented and enforced.
